London, England - Day 6

We walked through Hyde Park for the last time this morning to visit the Victoria & Albert Museum. This is another of the big London attractions that we felt we should visit. The Rodin sculptures were the highlight of the usual museum fare on display, but we enjoyed the Beatrix Potter exhibition, with the original Peter Rabbit illustrations, and a section dedicated to the performing arts, more.

After getting museum burnout, we walked to the Knightsbridge tube station. I wanted to go by a fire station to try to trade patches, but they were all locked up, so we caught the tube to the Portrait Gallery, where we spent several hours trying to put faces to all the tangle of royalty and other famous folks that we've heard about. A stroll through the sea of humanity in Trafalgar Square finished our sight-seeing, and we caught the tube for home.

We had asked about transport to Heathrow at least three different times, and had a plan formulated using the underground and our pass cards. When we started home this afternoon, we learned that the underground was not running to Heathrow this weekend, so we had to start over. After consulting with the ticket agent at Paddington Station, we settled on train tickets for tomorrow. We cashed in our now useless underground passes and changed all but 33 pence into U.S. dollars. Having no luck finding anything to buy for 33 pence, I gave it to a pretty girl who was working as a greeter at a café between the station and the apartment. We finished off our groceries, threw away several items that were deemed not worth transporting to the U.S., and got most of our packing done for a quick getaway in the morning.
