Eurominutes: The full version of this episode runs 48 minutes, but for the domestic (US) market, this was cut shorter for commercials. "Eurominutes" are those 4-5 minutes that European fans got to see but US fans missed out on when the episodes originally aired. (Subsequent reruns on USANetwork and SciFi/Syfy may or may not adhere to the original domestic cut.) Huge thanks to Gillian Horvath for providing the tape of the official domestic cut of this episode, as it was released by the studio for the US stations.
~Official Eurominutes are bolded.
~Reruns on USA Network* (1998) & SciFi channel (2000 & 2009) match the official cut.
* Special thanks to Debra Lindsay for the USA Network tape.

TEASER
Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - The Domino, a nightclub Amanda - [singing "Nobody's Sister"] CUT You thought you could use me Strut me up and down the Strasse Cheat on me and abuse me Well, mister, the tables have turned You've fallen under my spell I get to wear the crown That you reserved for yourself Hey, mister, I'm nobody's sister
Your stories were charming
Hey, mister, I'm nobody's sister
[leans over table as song ends] Well, Heinrich? Have you been a bad boy? Heinrich - Very bad. Amanda - [sits at table] Show me how bad. [Heinrich hands Amanda a wooden box. Inside are money plates.] Beautiful work. You've made me very happy. [leans in as if to kiss him] Later, my liebling. [As she walks away from the table, three men in trench coats enter the room -- Rutger and two Gestapo cops. Amanda sets box on piano out of sight, watches as the men case the room. Heinrich tries to bolt.] Translation: liebling - darling Rutger - [pulls gun] Heinrich! Stop! [Heinrich runs. Rutger shoots him.] Cop - [searches Heinrich's body] Nothing. Rutger - [walks over to Amanda] Play something. [Amanda looks at pianist, who starts playing "Nobody's Sister" again.]

ACT ONE
Establishing shot: Dojo 1 (this is NOT in the DVD version!)
DM - [fencing with RR] Your stamina's improved. RR - Yeah, I lasted a whole few seconds more that time. DM - Don't worry, it'll come. [pulls mask over face] RR - I hate this outfit. DM - Part of the discipline. Come on, let's do it again. RR - [puts mask back on] All right. You're mine now. [They assume en garde positions and begin to fence.] DM - Faster. [speed increases] Outside. [moves swordwork toward other side] Retreat. [RR starts backing up as they fence.] Duck! [RR ducks as DM swings foil at his head. They suddenly stop fencing as they sense 'buzz'. An Immortal in full fencing outfit enters dojo. Fencing mask hides the Immortal's identity.] RR - What does he want? [New Immortal points foil at DM.] DM - Me. [begins fencing with stranger.] Your move. [gets several hits in, then disarms stranger, removes stranger's mask to reveal…] Amanda. Amanda - I'll say this, MacLeod -- you sure know how to treat a girl.
<DM - [fighting with coffee machine] Oh, God, I hate this machine. I never got used to it in the first place. Coffee -- I've spilt it everywhere.> CUT Amanda - [looking around loft] I like it, Duncan. It's really you. [sits on end of bed] DM - Don't get used to it. What do you want, Amanda? Amanda - You mean, besides you? You know, it's been ages since we've seen each other. DM - It was last year in Paris. CUT
Flashback: Inside museum [Zachary uses rope-and-pulley system to lower Amanda down to display case. She lifts up glass cover, twists black jewelry box control slightly to the right, then picks up manuscript. Smiling, DM announces his presence by turning on the lights. Amanda & Zachary look up, startled, as he steps forward across the walkway from Zachary.] DM - You know, you're really good. I should let you get away with it. You know what? I'm gonna toss a coin. Heads, I let you go; tails, I call the police. Okay? [He pulls out coin & flips it, pretending to put his hand out to catch it but very obviously missing. Zachary & Amanda watch as coin falls in slow motion & hits floor next to display case. When it hits, the sensors are tripped & alarm begins to ring.] Oops.
[Amanda winces & signals Zachary to let her down. He does, then races downstairs to join her. She hands him the manuscript, removes her harness, & they run out of museum as police cars start to arrive.
<Flashback: Restaurant [Amanda & Zachary break into closed restaurant nearby & pause to catch their breath.] Amanda - Well, it wasn't the smoothest job I've ever pulled... [takes book from Zachary] ...but it worked. [looks around] Where the hell is MacLeod? Zachary - [realizing] I should have known this was a setup. Amanda - What? Zachary - I help you steal the book, MacLeod takes my head, and the two of you live happily ever after. Amanda - Okay, Zach, old pal... if that's the way you want it. [pulls her sword from behind her back -- literally out of NOWHERE] Let's get this over with, once and for all. Zachary - My pleasure. [pulls out revolver] I was saving this for MacLeod, to slow him down, but as they say: "All's fair in love and..." [stops as they both sense 'buzz'] [DM comes out of the shadows, grabs Zachary's gun away from him, then knocks him down.] DM - [clicking his tongue in disapproval] Tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk. Amanda - I knew you'd come. DM - Why? Did you miss me? [Zachary gets to his feet and pulls his sword from behind his back, exactly like Amanda did earlier -- out of NOWHERE. DM removes his from his coat.] Zachary - Why try to save her, MacLeod? She's betrayed you before. DM - [exchanges a few blows with Zachary] At least I'm smart enough to stay out of jail. [The fight takes them out into alley. Amanda follows, watching anxiously. DM eventually disarms Zachary, but before he can move in for the final stroke, Amanda beheads Zachary herself, then gives DM an apologetic shrug.]> 2
(resume previous scene) Amanda - All right. Maybe things just slip my mind every once in a while. DM - And into your pocket. Amanda - Well, nobody's perfect. Do you want to know the real reason I came to see you? DM - Surprise me. Amanda - Because I heard about Tessa. DM - Don't press your luck, Amanda. Amanda - Look, Duncan, I know we weren't exactly friends, but I do know she loved you, and I just thought, you know, maybe you could use the company. DM - Thanks for the warm thought, but I'm doing okay. Amanda - Maybe not. You know, it's not good to be alone with these things. I think maybe I could help you forget about it. What are you thinking? DM - Actually, uh... I was wondering where you were going to stay tonight.
Amanda - Of course I had a room standing by, but I didn't think I needed it, MacLeod. I can't believe this. Whatever happened to good old-fashioned hospitality? DM - I guess it went out with covered wagons and hoop skirts. Amanda - You know, you won't let me change. You really expect me to steal, don't you? DM - I expect sharks to bite, too. Don't take it personally.
[knock on door] Palance's voice - Room service. [Palance opens door, enters, holding gun. Jeffries, his partner, follows. They search the suite.]
Amanda - I really thought we used to have something, MacLeod. I guess I was wrong. DM - Oh, spare me, Amanda. You don't do the "hurt woman" very well. Amanda - Well, it was worth a shot. DM - Hmph. Amanda - But... I really do like you, Duncan. CUT <Let's just play house for seventy or eighty years.>
[Palance and Jeffries start looking through drawers in bedroom.]
Amanda - You come up, I'll show you my etchings. DM - [laughs] Amanda, look, maybe... maybe in the future we can get together and have a drink and laugh about old times. Amanda - I can't wait. [walks down hall to her room]
Palance - [no luck finding what they were looking for, sighs] Damnit.
Palance - [grabs Amanda as she walks past] Listen! Amanda - Leave me alone. Palance - No! Now, where are they? Amanda - What do you want? DM - [approaches] Hey! Leave the lady alone. Palance - Back off, pal. It's none of your business. DM - Unfortunately, it is. Palance - Hey, you-- [points gun at DM] [DM and Palance fight, Jeffries shoots DM in the shoulder.] DM - [to Amanda] Come on! [They run.] Jeffries - [helps Palance up] Come on. [They follow, find open window, go through onto hotel roof, but can't find them.] Jeffries - We lost them. Palance - Let's check every floor. Come on. [They leave.] DM - [hiding in large vent] They're gone. Amanda - [hiding in second large vent] How's your arm? DM - I'll live... which is more than I can say about you. [climbs out of fan access, opens door to Amanda's] Who were those guys? Amanda - I swear on my mother's grave-- DM - You don't have a mother!
|
ACT TWO
Amanda - [watching ducks on lake, sighs] Sometimes I wish I could be like them -- no worries, no fears. DM - No one chasing after you? Amanda - Why won't you believe me? I've never seen those guys before in my life. DM - Funny, they seem to know you. Amanda - Well, I don't know what they could be after. DM - Maybe it was one of those little things that slipped your mind -- you know, like gold bars, crown jewels, ancient artifacts, maybe... Amanda - Would you lay off? I haven't made a hit since Paris. DM - Funny. I thought you forgot Paris. Amanda - Well, I remembered. Besides, you think if someone was chasing me, I'd come running after you? DM - It wouldn't be the first time. [watches man hammer sign on tree by lake: "DO NOT FEED THE DUCKS"] Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - stone bridge [Man in uniform hammers political poster onto tree trunk: "Deutscher, für Dich!" As man leaves, Werner approaches poster and tears it down.] Translations: Deutscher - German(s) (masculine); für dich - for you <DM - I wouldn't do that if I were you. Even the children around here are watching. Cold out this time of year. CUT Werner - Yeah, it's a good season for traveling. Berlin has become dangerous. DM - Well, getting in is easy. Getting out's the hard part.> Werner - Yeah, well, we'd better hurry. We do not have much time. DM - We'll meet at the Domino... tonight. Werner - Yeah.
Establishing shot: Street outside The Domino, night
Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - The Domino, night DM - You have to watch your temper, Werner. Werner - It was only a poster. DM - Anyone can report you. They may have already. Werner - If you saw what was going on here day after day... DM - It draws too much attention. We can't risk that. [flags a waitress for fresh drinks] Werner - How can I stand by and do nothing? Berlin has become an asylum... Waitress - [approaches with drinks] Two martinis. Werner - [quietly] ...and the inmates are running it. [as waitress leaves] Vielen Dank. Translations: Vielen Dank - Many thanks DM - What you're doing is important, Werner. Werner - How can I help? DM - I need travel papers. Werner - Describe the subject. DM - Five-eight, gray hair, brown eyes, fifty-seven. Make him an English tourist returning home to see his sick wife. Werner - Papers, I think, are not too difficult. DM - I need them tonight. Werner - Then someone wants him out very badly. Who is he? DM - Your job is to deliver the papers, Werner. Can you do it? Werner - Yes, if I hurry. DM - Then let's get started. [stands, senses 'buzz', sees Amanda peeking through backstage curtain] Amanda - [comes out and catches DM as they are leaving] MacLeod? It is you. [kisses him] DM - Amanda. [to Werner, as Amanda pulls him away] I'll catch up. Amanda - [dances with DM] What are you doing in Berlin? DM - Trying to see the sights before they're all gone. Amanda - I could show you a few that aren't on the tourist guide. DM - Thanks for the offer, but I'm all booked up. From what I can see, you must be pretty busy, yourself. Amanda - Never too busy for you, MacLeod. DM - There's this guy watching you, you know. Amanda - There usually is. DM - Big ape with a scar like a highway? Must be a close relative or friend. Amanda - That's Rutger. He's a cop. Don't worry. We had a little trouble here last night, but it's nothing to do with me. DM - No, it never is. It's been really nice seeing you, Amanda, but I have to run. Amanda - Not until you tell me where you're staying. DM - And why would I do that? Amanda - Because I'll scream if you don't. CUT
Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - Street outside the Domino, night Werner - She works for you? DM - Amanda? No, she only works for herself. Werner - But you seem to know her very well. DM - It's a long story, Werner. You don't want to know. Werner - Yes, but I do. She saw us together. I need to know if she can be trusted. DM - The answer is no. But she won't betray us, either. CUT
Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - hotel suite Arkin - [shuffling through papers at desk] I always wondered what it would be like to be English. DM - Now I guess you're going to get your chance, professor. Just take the vital ones, they're going to be watching for us. Arkin - The vital part isn't there. It's here. [points to his head] Do you know anything of physics, Herr MacLeod? DM - Well, just the old-fashioned kind. I guess I left off at alchemy. Arkin - Just a bunch of numbers to most people, but it is a map we can follow to the heart of the atom, maybe to the secrets of the universe. DM - Maybe the secret's somewhere else. Arkin - You don't think science knows the answers, do you, Herr MacLeod? DM - I'm not so sure it knows the right questions, Herr Doctor.
Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - Street outside the Domino, night [Amanda exits building, walks across street, is grabbed by Rutger.] Rutger - How well did you know Heinrich Faas? (shooting script = Faas; closed captions = Voss) Amanda - Who? Rutger - The man who was killed at the club. Amanda - Him? Hardly at all. Rutger - I heard you were his lover. Amanda - Me and that sweaty little man? Hardly. He was just a regular who liked to tip big, that's all. CUT Rutger - Did he tell you how he made his money? Amanda - No. [tries to leave] Rutger - [grabs her arm again] You will accompany me to the station. Amanda - All right... but, uh... can't we think of somewhere more exciting to go than that? Rutger - What did you have in mind? Amanda - Whatever you have in yours. A man with a scar is so sexy. [leans in as if to kiss him, then knees him in the groin] I never kiss on the first date.
Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - hotel suite DM - Can anyone follow your research? Arkin - The theory is so new... who knows. With a little luck and these papers, perhaps. DM - Well... [lights edge of papers with lighter] Now nobody is going to follow your work. [stuffs burning papers into wastebasket full of papers] [Two men burst into office with guns.] DM - Gentlemen, gentlemen, what is this? I mean, what is going-- [punches closest man, then second man, knocking both out] Now, that's physics, professor. Come on, let's go. [leaves office with Arkin, finds Amanda right outside.] Amanda, what are you doing here? Amanda - What do you think I'm doing? I'm taking you up on that offer. DM - What offer? There wasn't one. Now why don't you go back and sing your heart out for somebody. Professor-- Amanda - Well, I can't. I sort of quit tonight. [looks over at Arkin] Who's he? DM - Nice seeing you, Amanda. Amanda - Listen, MacLeod, I'm in a bit of a jam. Could I at least use your hotel room tonight? DM - Be my guest. But I have to warn you, the room service stinks. Come on, professor. [air-kisses Amanda, leaves] Amanda - [enters room, sees men unconscious on floor] You're right. The room service stinks. [leaves room]
Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - empty road, night DM - [as Werner pulls up in car] You're late. Werner - Yeah, these things take time. Where's your friend? DM - Safe. Do you have the papers? Werner - [hands documents over] Whoever you are taking out, they don't like it. The roads are crawling with police. DM - Then they'll be covering the borders, too. Werner, can you manage a small plane? Werner - Well, this is not so simple. Oh, the plane, yes, I can manage. But these are tense times. Without the proper code for the air-traffic controllers, you'll be shot down. DM - Then get me the code. I'll fly it out myself. Werner - We're talking about genuine Luftwaffe codes here, MacLeod. That will take real money. DM - Whatever it takes, do it.

ACT THREE
Flashback - Berlin, 1936 - rural airfield, next morning Arkin - [looking at plane offscreen] I don't know. How do you know that that will fly all the way to England? DM - Because I've done it before, professor. Look at it as a kind of physics... the old-fashioned kind. Come on. Arkin - But it doesn't look very safe. DM - Safer than staying here. Don't worry, professor, another ten minutes and we'll all be safe. [crosses tarmac to Werner] Do you have the codes? Werner - Of course. Money is a great communicator. DM - Good. Come on, professor. Werner - So... you are the one everybody is looking for, hmm? DM - It's not your problem anymore, Werner. Werner - No, you are right. It's yours. [gestures to men coming out of nearby building] Your flight has been cancelled, MacLeod. DM - What did they buy you with, Werner? Cash? Or maybe gold bars, or perhaps it's one of those tight little uniforms they love to wear? Werner - They did not buy me! War is coming. You will fight for your country, and I will fight for mine. And mine will win. DM - Don't count on it. Werner - Enough. Move. [The men take DM and Arkin at gunpoint back toward building. Amanda appears from behind tail of plane and knocks one of the men down. DM fights the second while Amanda goes after Werner.] Werner - Don't touch me. I've hurt women before. [Amanda kicks him and knocks him down.] DM - [finishes with his man] Come on. [runs with Arkin back to plane] Amanda - Hang on! DM - [to Arkin] Get in! Get in! Go! [to Amanda] What are you doing here? Amanda - You can't leave me like this. DM - There's only enough room for two! Amanda - [as motorcycle with sidecar approaches] MacLeod, please! They're going to kill me. DM - Can you fly this thing? Amanda - Yeah. Are you kidding? DM - Just make sure he gets to England in one piece. [helps Amanda into cockpit] Here. [hands her the papers and codes] Amanda - What about you? DM - Don't worry, I'll manage. Just get out of here. Amanda - I'll never forget this. DM - [kisses her quickly] Yes, you will. [closes plane door] Go! [hides behind another plane as motorcycle stops nearby] Cyclist - Halt! [starts shooting at plane taxiing away] [DM grabs man's gun, punches him, jumps on cycle and drives away (and off embankment... oops. That wasn't supposed to happen.)]
DM - Probably those two from the hotel are part of them. Amanda - So now you're telling me you think these guys are Watchers? DM - They might be. Amanda - Great. A bunch of mortals have known about us for centuries. How can you be so calm about this? DM - Because there's nothing I can do about them. They've been around longer than I have. Amanda - This gets better all the time. And all they do is watch us? DM - Sometimes... and sometimes they kill us. Amanda - Perfect. I mean, at least with Immortals, we can feel them coming. We can be ready. How do we know who these guys are? DM - They have tattoos. Amanda - So do millions of other people. Where exactly are these tattoos? Are they, um... [bares her right shoulder] here? DM - [laughs softly] No. Amanda - [bares her other shoulder] What about here? DM - Um, no. Amanda - Could they be... [reaches inside DM's shirt] here? DM - No, no, not there. Amanda - No? DM - You really want to know where they are? Amanda - Mm-hmm. DM - They're right here. [kisses the inside of her wrist, then she kisses him]
Amanda - I could get used to this. DM - What, for about three or four days? Amanda - I'm serious. Sometimes I think about settling down. Getting a place of my own, a little garden... I've always wanted a garden. [off DM's grin] What are you laughing about? DM - I'm not laughing. Want some wine? Amanda - [takes sip from wineglass] Yes, you were. <DM - CUT No, I wasn't. I was smiling. There's a difference. I mean, can't a guy just smile?> Amanda - Mm, no, not you. You never do anything without a reason. I'll bet you think that it's funny that I want to have a normal life, right? DM - Nope. You can do whatever you want. Amanda - You're damn right I can. DM - Well, I'm glad we got that settled. 3 DM - Actually, you never did mention about that time in Berlin. Amanda - I don't want to talk about Berlin. I want to talk about why you were smiling. DM - Have you always been like this? Amanda - Just answer the question. DM - [clears his throat] Ahem. Why can't I just smile? You know? I mean, I'm happy, we're safe for now. Just made love to the most... devious... scheming, deceitful... beautiful woman in history. Amanda - Do you really think I'm one of the most beautiful woman in history?
RR - [as DM walks in] Mac, hey. DM - Hey. How you doing? RR - Good. Oh, I slept like a log last night. How about you? You sleep okay? DM - Yeah. Fine. RR - Good, good. That's really good, see, 'cause I was afraid you might be a little, uh... tied up. DM - Tied up? RR - Yeah. Exactly. I mean, you know, I've been thinking, Mac. I mean, we're both men of the world here. You make your own decisions. Who you choose to sleep with -- that's entirely your business. DM - I used to think so. RR - Mac, don't get me wrong. I mean, she is a very, very fine-looking woman, extremely hot. Purely on a level of physical attraction, one to ten, she's... what do you say? Off the scale. I mean, I'd probably even be tempted myself. In theory, of course. You see, Mac, I'm not quite sure how to say this to you. DM - Richie, I understand what you're saying. But frankly, it's none of your business. RR - I know, but see, Mac, friends look out for each other. She's a crook. She's setting you up for something. DM - And I thought she wanted me for my mind.
[Sign in window reads: Harry Kaufman, fine engraving] Amanda - Hi. I have a proposition for you.
DM - Amanda? RR - So, Mac, where is she? [looks over at spiral staircase to roof access] Oh, still leaving the back way, huh? DM - I guess she probably just went shopping... with my credit card.
[Amanda shakes hands with Kaufman, deal made, then looks up as DM enters store.] Amanda - MacLeod. How'd you find me? DM - Shopping receipts. Amanda - Oh, you shouldn't have. DM - [pulls Amanda away] You couldn't keep away, could you? Amanda - Why should I? Diamonds are a girl's best friend. DM - Not when they're stolen. Amanda - I came here out of professional interest. I would never rob the place. DM - [sarcastic] Oh, no... [sees Palance and Jeffries pull up in car across the street] Your friends again. Amanda - There must be a way out of here. [They leave by back door shortly before men enter through front.] Palance - They went out the back. Harry, come here. [takes Kaufman aside]
Palance - [watching recorded footage from security camera] Move it forward. [Kaufman fast-forwards the tape.] Freeze it! That's him. [Image of DM on the screen] That's the son of a bitch I want. Kaufman - Never saw that guy before today.
[Jeffries looks for Amanda & DM.]
Palance - The woman hits town... wants an engraver who can keep his mouth zipped. Our informant hears, we put you under surveillance. A little later, she shows up here. Where are the plates, Harry? Kaufman - She didn't have them with her. She was just checking me out. She wanted to know if I could change the dates.
[DM drops down from fire escape, knocks Jeffries out.]
Palance - If that's all you can give me, you'd better grab your coat. It's a long ride downtown. Kaufman - Oh, look, I did what you wanted. I called as soon as she showed up.
[DM checks Jeffries' wrists -- no tattoo.] Amanda - Is he one of them? DM - No, he's not. [checks Jeffries' coat pockets, removes wallet, finds badge]
Kaufman - Wait a minute. She called him something. It was MacLeod. Yeah, yeah, that's it. It was MacLeod.
DM - [looking at ID card] FBI? [glares at Amanda]
Palance - CUT Keep this to yourself. [takes VHS security tape with him and leaves] Kaufman - [to himself] Yeah. Right.
Amanda - Listen, MacLeod, I swear I don't know anything. DM - You swear? Amanda - I don't know anything. DM - You swear? Every time you swear, you get me into more trouble. Now what little scheme have you got going? Amanda - MacLeod, I...

ACT FOUR
TAG
Announcer on TV - [over video of Palance shooting DM and Amanda in the back, then being led to car in handcuffs] Even without the unidentified bodies, prosecutors feel the counterfeit plates and the anonymous video would be enough to lay several charges against Special Agent Palance, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and fraud. We'll be back with more details later in the broadcast. Helen? RR - Well, guys, I'm out of here. [DM turns off TV.] Amanda - Well, uh, take good care of yourself. RR - I will. You, too, and, uh... what you did, Amanda, it took guts. Amanda - Thanks, Richard. [kisses his cheek] RR - [to DM] I'll catch you later. Amanda - Bye. RR - Bye-bye. Amanda - [to DM as RR leaves] You know, this really... this really hurts. DM - What, where you got shot? Amanda - No, giving up the plates. DM - They weren't yours to lose in the first place. Amanda - Oh, I love it when you get angry with me. It makes it more fun to make up. Are you sure, absolutely sure, that you don't want to play house for seventy or eighty years? DM - [laughing] You're impossible. Amanda - Not for you. DM - Amanda, it's like I said -- it's not the right time. Amanda - I know, I know, I know. But it was just one more shot, though. Oh well. We'll always have Paris. DM - Yeah, London and Rome... and Tulsa. Amanda - See you around, MacLeod. Got a bus to catch. DM - Hey, Amanda... Amanda - What? DM - It'll still be there in the morning. Amanda - True. [They kiss. Fade to black.] |
