[Coleman runs through the woods, chased by a Rottweiler. The dog knocks him down & worries his arm, then runs off. Coleman starts running again. The Rottweiler returns with 2 friends. They surround Coleman, then suddenly stop & lie down. Coleman senses a 'buzz'. Kanis approaches.]

Coleman - Kanis.

Kanis - [knocks the sword from Coleman's hand] And friends. [beheads Coleman]
 

[DM walks past buildings, down staircase. ¹ As DM walks past building, Hampton looks around corner & follows. DM hears him panting & looks over his shoulder. The dog continues to follow him. He looks back again, then stops & turns around.]

DM - Hey, big fella. Don't you got anything better to do than follow me around? [moves forward, holding his hand out] It's all right. I won't hurt you. [Hampton starts growling, barking.] Have it your way. [starts walking again. Hampton follows.]

[RR is staring at laptop screen, senses 'buzz' & looks up, sees DM enter empty dojo & goes back to staring at screen.]

DM - Must be fascinating.

RR - Yeah... The accountant gets it in the end. The way I see it, Mac, you break even just in time for the Second Coming... IF they freeze property taxes.

DM - Yeah, but what's my hurry?

RR - That's a good point. [DM empties stack of books out of satchel.] Ooh, a little bedside reading?

DM - Well, I've got some cramming to do.

RR - As in studying? You're taking a class?

DM - Nope. Teaching one at the university. A friend of mine's head of the Art Department. Asked if I wouldn't mind taking over a graduate seminar.

RR - [reading book titles] "Arms and Armor of the Thirteenth Century"... "Treasures of the Fourth Crusade".... So this is what they teach you in college, huh? Very practical.

DM - It's never too late, Richie. After all, I never learned to read until--

RR - [interrupts] --until you were fifty, I know. Probably had to walk a mile in the snow, too.

DM - Uphill.

Both - [together] Both ways!

DM - Don't start.

RR - I'm done. [DM hears dogs barking, moves off, listening.] What's up?

DM - Ah, nothing.

Vendor - Yeah, it's been a good day. You want mustard on that? [hands hot dog to RR, takes money] Thanks.

[RR puts mustard on hot dog, looks up, sees Roszca walking toward him, dressed as a bicycle courier.]

Roszca - [pointing gun] Now, give me the keys.

[RR frowns at Roszca, remembering.]

Roszca - You got more. Where's her purse?

RR - It's all we've got.

Tessa - I don't have a purse. I don't have a purse -- only the rings, I swear.

[Roszca walks past RR.]

Roszca - You lying bitch! [shoots Tessa, then RR]

RR - Son of a bitch! [throws hot dog down, runs after Roszca, pulls him off his bike. They roll around on the ground, then Roszca throws RR off & runs.] Bastard! [chases him] I'm going to get you, you little scumbag!

Roszca - [runs past woman, into rundown apartment building] Call the cops! The guy's crazy! [locks door behind him, keeps running.]

RR - [bangs on door] Open the door! [smashes garbage can into window, breaking it, unlocks door through broken window]

Woman - What do you think you're doing? Hey!

[RR runs inside, chases Roszca upstairs.]

[Roszca runs inside, slams the door shut as RR gets there.]

RR - [bangs on door] Open the door! You can't hide! I know who you are!

Alicia - What's wrong?

RR - [bangs on door] Open the damned door!

Alicia - [as Roszca pulls her toward the bedroom] What happened? What does he want?

Roszca - I don't know! Just don't come out, no matter what. [pushes Alicia into bedroom, goes back to door] Get out of here! Stay away from us!

RR - [bursts through door, grabs Roszca] Remember me, Jack?

Roszca - No.

RR - [throws Roszca down] Think a little harder. I'm the guy you shot.

Roszca - Shot? You're crazy.

RR - And you killed a friend of mine, you little bastard.

Roszca - I've never killed anybody. I've never even seen you before!

RR - [in his face] Yeah, well, look again!

Alicia - [comes out of bedroom as RR & Roszca roll around on floor] Stop it! Let go of him! What are you doing? You're killing him! [Sirens are heard in the distance. RR grabs Roszca & throws him onto kitchen table.] Get off of him! Stop it! [Fight continues as squad cars pull up outside.]

Roszca - 'Licia, don't, go back! [Fight continues.]

Alicia - Don't hurt him! CUT Why are you doing this?

RR - Ask him.

Cop - [enters apartment] What the hell's going on here?

Roszca - I swear to God, man, I don't know what you're talking about. CUT

Cop - Get off him, now!

CUT

RR - Listen to me! This guy's a murderer!

Roszca - He's crazy!

Cop - I said let him go! Now move! [pulls RR away]

RR - What are you doing? Get off me! [Cop pushes him away, toward his partner] Her name was Tessa Noel. You just check it out.

[Alicia runs to Roszca. Cop's partner handcuffs RR & leads him out. Cop goes over to Alicia & Roszca.]

Cop - Come on. Let's go. [escorts them out]

[Girl walks away from camera across plaza. ² Another girl walks across screen from right to left.]

DM - Throughout history, we see two human traits continually showing up, even though they're completely opposed. One is the need for destruction. [hands several swords around] The other is the urge to create beauty even in destruction. [lifts shiny armored helmet] Even armor has a brutal beauty of its own.

Gerard - [examining another, less beautiful, armored helmet] How could they fight in this? It weighs a ton.

DM - It wasn't that bad. Look. [puts shiny helmet on] It's made to measure. [moves his head around] Easy movement. [takes helmet off] Not exactly Armani, but it sure beat this. [lifts corselet of chain mail out of box] Twelfth century chain mail, used by the Crusaders. Imagine riding at full gallop with forty pounds of this on your back. [tosses chain mail on table]

Gerard - Looks like Isaac Hayes on a bad day.

Julie - [picks up chain mail] Ohh! How'd they stand it?

DM - <CUT Well, sometimes they didn't. In 1097, for instance, there were twenty-nine thousand armed Crusaders that left Nicaea for Jerusalem.> They crossed through Syria, a thousand miles in ninety-degree heat. First their armor dropped, then they did. Only one in three survived. Anyway... [checks his pocket-watch] That's about it for today. Anybody want some hands-on experience?

Students - [raise their hands] Yeah. Yeah.

DM - [to volunteers, including Julie & Gerard] Oh, good. [sets chest on table] You can help me carry these to the car. [The volunteers groan. Julie stands, grabs her bag.]

Student - Have fun.

<DM - [walking with the students] Well, it wasn't only the heat. Many of them were lost because of an epidemic that swept through the camps.> CUT

Shandra - Oh, how go the Crusades?

Julie - He's great.

Shandra - Yeah, I'm sure he is, but can he teach? [as DM & students walk past] Oh, Duncan, by the way, there's a faculty meeting at three o'clock. Something about life insurance.

DM - Let me know how it goes. ³

Julie - [as they continue on their way] So what happened when they got there?

DM - Who?

Julie - The Crusaders.

DM - Oh, well, CUT Europeans prefer to ride stallions into battle, whereas the Turks preferred mares. Nobody was ready for what happened when they met.

Julie - Which was?

DM - Well, it turned out half the mares were in heat. It was love at first sight. [takes swords from student, sees 3 Rottweilers watching him from nearby]

[Super: England 1785]

[A mounted hunting party is following a pack of hounds. Close on hounds. Close on group of riders. Camera pans, following the dogs and riders. ⁴ Close on DM, riding one of the horses.]

Shepherd - Help! Help! Somebody, help me!

[DM turns his horse, sees a boy running through the field being chased by a large dog (looks like a boxer). The boy runs into the woods, pursued now by two boxers. DM rides in that direction. The boy tries to hide & DM shoots one of the dogs with his pistol as it leaps to attack. DM dismounts, grabs his flintlock, & goes to the boy.]

DM - Are you injured?

Shepherd - No, sir.

[Kanis, who has been watching from nearby, dismounts from his horse. He & DM sense each other's 'buzz'.]

Kanis - [kneels beside fallen dog, hand resting on the second dog] You did this.

DM - I had no choice. They would have killed the boy.

Kanis - They were supposed to kill the boy! CUT He threw a rock at one of my dogs.

CUT

DM - It is not sport to hunt a boy.

Kanis - Men like us hunt what we wish. [snaps his fingers. Remaining dog starts growling.] You killed the finest hunting dog in the land!

DM - [points flintlock at Kanis] CUT Call them off.

Duchess - [rides up with rest of hunting party] MacLeod! It is deer we are hunting, not hounds!

<DM - They were after the boy, milady. CUT This man owns them. If I hadn't stopped them, they would have killed him.>

Duchess - On my lands? Destroy the dogs.

Kanis - No! You harm them and it's you who will be destroyed!

DM - It is treason to threaten the duchess.

Duchess - Put him in irons. He'll stand trial for treason. CUT

(resume previous scene)

Gerard - So even in the Crusades some wanted to make love, not war.

DM - [distracted] Something like that. I'll see you all Wednesday, yeah? [walks across street, following Hampton]

[Hampton leads DM to Kanis.]

DM - Kanis.

Kanis - MacLeod. CUT

DM - [re: Kanis' dog collar 'necklace'] Mm, nice flea collar.

Kanis - Tell me, MacLeod, what do you teach those children? Ethics? Loyalty to your own kind?

DM - You're not my kind, Kanis. You murdered. You got what you deserved.

Kanis - Oh not yet. Not nearly, but I will.

DM - [looks at dog standing near Kanis] Still keeping the same company, I see. Must make conversation a little dull.

Kanis - It's my family, MacLeod. They would die for me without a thought.

DM - Or kill for you.

Kanis - I kill. They hunt. There's a difference.

DM - If you want me, why don't we just step off holy ground and forget the dogs?

Kanis - What, just like that, MacLeod? Where's the fun? The anticipation? Soon enough. [starts to walk away, turns back] You can't sense them coming. The first thing you'll feel will be their teeth as they tear you down. And as they rip out your throat, I'll be right behind them, MacLeod. [Kanis walks off with one of the dogs. The other stays behind, barking at DM, preventing him from following, then runs after them.]
 

Sheridan - [into phone] Tessa Noel -- homicide file 6821. [pause] No. No, there's nothing we can do. [pause] No, no, I can't. [pause] Well, there's nothing to charge. No. [pause] Yeah, hold the file, will you? [hangs up]

[DM enters station, sees Roszca & Alicia sitting at Sheridan's desk with RR.]

DM - Is that him?

RR - That's him, Mac. That's the punk who killed Tessa.

[DM, inside, hears gunshot. Roszca runs off. DM runs out, then approaches Tessa's body slowly. ⁵ Close on Tessa's body as he kneels, cradles her gently.]

RR - [lying "dead" nearby, gasps & sits up] Mac, I'm alive... And the pain... it's going away.

DM - Wait another minute, and you'll be fine.

RR - Then... I'm like you? I'm an Immortal.

DM - You always were.

RR - You knew all along, didn't you?

DM - Yeah.

RR - Tessa?

DM - [shakes his head] No.

(resume previous scene)

Sheridan - And who are you?

DM - I'm Duncan MacLeod.

Sheridan - The boyfriend.

RR - We've got a little problem here, Mac, though. They don't believe me.

DM - If Richie said he did it, he did it.

Sheridan - Mister, I don't know you. [re RR] And I don't know him. [re Roszca] And I don't know him. What I do know is that this report says there were no witnesses. And if you did see it, why'd it take you two years to come forward? [to Roszca] You can go home.

Alicia - I'm sorry your friend was killed, but my Mark didn't do it.

RR - [puts out a hand & stops Roszca from leaving] Wait a minute. That's it? He just walks out of here?

Sheridan - You get your hands off him!

RR - You've got to be kidding!

Sheridan - Listen! I'll have your butt in a sling. Now you kick in HIS door, you threaten HIS life. He's got no priors. You've got a juvie record longer than my arm. Now if Mr. Roszca here would do as I ask and charge you, then it would be YOU who wouldn't be leaving. Now get out of here.

Roszca - [to RR] Hey, I just wanted to let you know everything's cool. I understand how mistakes can happen.

DM - [steps toward him, menacingly] Cool?

Sheridan - Hey! [Roszca & Alicia leave.] That goes for you, too, mister.

DM - [to RR] Let's go.

RR - We're not done.

DM - We are for now.

[Roszca & Alicia are loading their belongings into the back of a pickup. DM watches from across the street.]

Roszca - I told you I'll carry everything.

Alicia - I'm pregnant, Mark. I'm not sick.

Roszca - I know, but you've got to take care of yourself. CUT

[They kiss & embrace.]

RR - What are you going to do?

DM - I don't know.

RR - What do you mean, you don't know?

DM - I mean I don't know!

RR - You're not going to go after him?

DM - You want me to cut out his heart? Is that what you want, Richie?

RR - Yes, I do, Mac. He killed Tessa.

DM - I know.

RR - You've got to make him pay.

DM - Do I?

RR - You've got to do it for her.

DM - I can't do anything for her. Neither can you.

RR - I don't get it, Mac.

[DM hears dog barking, runs outside with sword, sees a boy walking a German shepherd.]

Duchess - [in bed with DM, kissing him] Since the duke died, I've taken little pleasure, save for your arms.

DM - Always glad to be of service, milady.

[Baying of hounds interrupt them.]

Duchess - Damn them! I can't stand their howling.

DM - Calm yourself. They're hounds... They'll quiet down soon enough.

Duchess - Dogs don't act like that... not unless they're bewitched. It's as if he's sending the hellish things after me.

DM - The day we return, he will face the charges.

Sheriff - [offscreen, clears his throat] Milady...

Duchess - [gets up, puts robe on] I can't stand them. Kept me up half the night.

Sheriff - [offscreen, more loudly] Milady...

Duchess - [turns to face him] Speak.

Sheriff - I wouldn't have disturbed you, but a guard's been killed.

Duchess - The dogs?

<Sheriff - CUT [nods] They were trying to free Kanis. One man is dead, torn to pieces. Another badly mauled.>

Duchess - Enough. I want him executed immediately.

Sheriff - With no trial?

Duchess - Damn the trial. I will not give him the chance to kill again.

Sheriff - As you wish. [leaves]

Duchess - [to DM] He will not threaten us from the grave. [kisses him]

Sheriff - Peter Kanis, you know the charges against you. Murdering a freeman, uttering treasonous threats against the duchess--

[Kanis is sitting on a horse under a tree, his hands tied & a noose around his neck. The sheriff is at the horse's head, holding the reins.]

Kanis - [interrupts] We all know the charges! Ah, fools. You're digging your own graves. [looks at DM] Ah, MacLeod, is it? I'll remember you.

DM - I hope so.

Duchess - He's mad. Get on with it.

Kanis - Ah, Her Ladyship seems anxious to get away. Giddyup! [His horse runs forward, leaving him swinging in the air under the tree.]

Duchess - It is done. Away. We'll hunt no more this day. [turns her horse away] Duncan!

DM - I will see to it that the body is buried.

Duchess - THEY will see to it, in an unmarked and shallow grave. Let the beasts take care of their own. MacLeod! [rides off. DM reluctantly follows.]

[later]

[Two boxers sit by a mound of fresh dirt. Suddenly a hand erupts from the dirt, then Kanis sits up in the shallow grave. He looks over at the dogs.]

Kanis - Be still, my true ones. Your master is back.

[later]

[DM rides back out to the grave site, but the grave is empty. Kanis & his dogs are long gone.]

RR - So do I. [leaves] ⁶
 

RR - I don't get it. I thought he'd go after the guy with his bare hands.

Joe - I'm sure he had his reasons.

RR - Yeah, well, if you ask me, I think he's taking this Zen crap a little too far. You know, "It's done," "It's in the past," "Won't bring her back."

Joe - It won't.

RR - Joe, I know how much he loved her. YOU know how much he loved her. [Joe acknowledges this.] ⁷ I saw the hate in his eyes when he first saw that guy. He was ready to tear him apart.

Joe - [sighs] Yeah. You know, I've got a lot of stuff I've got to do around here, Rich. Besides, it's none of my business.

RR - What's up with you, Joe? CUT

Joe - I'm fine.

Joe - This never should have happened. Never. I'm responsible.

DM - Charlie's dead because I let Cord live.

Joe - Aw, Mac--

DM - I let you get between us, Joe. I shouldn't have. You and I, we're different. We got too close.

Joe - But ⁸ we're friends, Mac.

DM - We're different. There's a reason we stay apart. We crossed the line.

Joe - So that's it, huh? We just walk away?

DM - I am Immortal.

[Joe leaves.]

(resume previous scene)

RR - You want to talk about anything?

Joe - [shakes his head] No. I'm just fine.

RR - [not convinced] Yeah. Sure. I'll see you later. [leaves]

Joe - [to himself] I think I'll take you up on that beer, Richie. [pulls out a bottle, removes the cap & takes a drink] ⁹

[DM drives up in T-Bird, parks.]

[Queen - "Who Wants to Live Forever"

[DM gets out of car, leaving his sword behind.]

[He takes off jogging through the park.]

[Tessa is working on a still life. DM is sitting next to her.]

[DM & Tessa fight for possession of rearview mirror.]

Tessa - [runs to DM, kisses him] I love you. I love you.

[DM & Tessa walk hand in hand down the street.]

[DM & Tessa discuss his birthday.]

DM - [gets down on one knee, singing] Will you marry me? Will you marry me?

Tessa - Get up! There are people.

[DM & Tessa run through flock of pigeons.]

(resume previous scene)

[DM continues jogging.]

[Roszca points gun, Tessa begs, Roszca shoots her.]

(resume previous scene)

[DM is running harder now.]

[DM watches Roszca & Alicia kiss & embrace.]

[DM & Tessa kiss.]

(resume previous scene)

[DM continues running.]

[DM cradles Tessa's body.]

[Roszca & Alicia embrace.]

[At Tessa's grave. Headstone reads: TESSA NOEL 1958-1993]

(resume previous scene)

[DM is still running.]

[DM stops running when he sees Hampton standing on the path in front of him. Another dog approaches from the side. DM turns, starts walking back the way he came. The dogs growl and follow him. A third Rottweiler appears on the path ahead of him. DM leaves the path, walking slowly toward the woods, then starts running. The dogs give chase. They catch him just before he reaches his car. Hampton knocks him down & bites at his arms and legs. He manages to get to the T-Bird, then Lancaster attacks, biting at his arm. DM knocks him away & grabs his sword.]

DM - [keeping the dogs at bay with the sword] Come on, Kanis! [gets into car & starts motor. Hampton jumps on the hood & barks at him through the windshield. He jumps off as DM drives away, then chases the car. DM pulls out onto the main street and an oncoming truck hits Hampton.]

[RR climbs stairs, goes down hallway to apartment door, pushes it open, looks around.]

RR - Damn it. [enters cleaned-out apartment, finds Alicia in the kitchen] Where is he?

Alicia - He's not here.

RR - I'm not going to stop looking until I find him.

Alicia - I swear, I don't know where he is... He left me.

RR - Is that why you're packing his shoes? [A pair of men's shoes sit on the counter next to a moving box.]

Alicia - <Those are mine.> CUT [removes small gold locket from around her neck] It's real gold. It was an engagement present. Take it.

RR - Put it away.

Alicia - Go on. Go on, take it!

RR - Don't. [walks out of apartment]

Alicia - [follows] You have to believe him. He didn't kill your friend. He's a good man. Leave him alone.

RR - [cold] I can't. [leaves]

Alicia - He didn't do it. [to herself] He couldn't -- he couldn't do it. ¹⁰

[DM exits elevator, limps inside, pulls torn, bloody sweatshirt off & throws it toward the couch. The phone rings.]

DM - [into phone] Hello?

Kanis - [on phone] Welcome home, MacLeod. Did you enjoy your run?

DM - [into phone] Enough, Kanis. Come on. Let's get this over with.

Kanis - [on phone] Soon, MacLeod. You killed another one of my dogs. Sleep well... but not too well. [laughs]

DM - [into phone] I'll be waiting. [hangs up phone]

[The torn, bloody jogging clothes are piled on the back of the couch. DM comes out of the bathroom in a white robe and white briefs (answering the 'boxers-or-briefs' question). He senses 'buzz' & grabs his sword.] ¹¹

RR - [exits elevator] Expecting someone?

DM - His name's Kanis.

RR - [picks up sweatpants & sweatshirt] Guy's got a good set of incisors.

DM - He uses dogs. He's running me like a deer, trying to wear me down before he comes in for the kill. [ties robe closed]

RR - [holds up clothes] Looks like it's working. You got a plan?

DM - Yeah. I'm going to find him and I'm going to kill him.

RR - A guy with a pack of dogs can't be too hard to track. I bet Joe knows where he is.

DM - Maybe he does.

RR - So are you going to ask him?

DM - No.

RR - [lets it go, changes the subject] So I went back to Roszca's place, but that little scumbag wasn't there.

DM - He's cleared out.

RR - How do you know?

DM - I saw him leave.

RR - And you didn't stop him?

DM - Richie, that girl loves him.

RR - So what?

DM - So she's pregnant. What are you going to do, make her a widow, too?

RR - Mac, I don't care. I'm going to keep looking 'till I find that boy's ass.

DM - Richie, I've tried revenge. I've hunted men down and I've slaughtered them with their wives and children watching. You'll care.

RR - Are you going to stop me?

[DM looks at him a moment, then shakes his head. RR leaves.]

[Kanis carries Hampton's body toward unlit bonfire.]

Kanis - You've been a faithful friend, Hampton. Like your sire before you. [puts Hampton's body on platform at top of pyre] But death comes even to the mightiest warrior. [brings burning torch over & lights the pyre] But know this, my friend. You shall be mourned and you shall be avenged. MacLeod will die. ¹²

[His remaining two Rottweilers watch from beside the motorhome.]

RR - So you know about this guy Kanis? You know where Mac can find him?

Joe - Sorry, Richie.

RR - Whoa, whoa, whoa. Did I miss something, here? Mac's got some whacko with a pack of dogs coming after him, and you're kicking back having a beer and peanuts?

Joe - I'm a Watcher, okay? I'm Watching.

RR - You're his friend. You're not going to help him?

Joe - He doesn't want my help.

RR - All right, then I'm asking. Where is this psycho?

Joe - Forget it, Richie. The doctor is not in.

Kanis - You have a very impressive operation here, Ms. Meach.

Valerie - Thank you, uh, Mr.--

Kanis - Kanis. Peter Kanis.

Valerie - [as Billy walks past with fishing rod and tackle box] Billy, be home for lunch! [Billy nods. Valerie escorts Kanis toward dog runs.] Please.

Kanis - My own string has recently been depleted. A tragic accident -- I lost one of my finest boys.

Valerie - I see. Well, I have a litter that'll be weaned the middle of next week. If you'd like to meet--

Kanis - [interrupts] That's not exactly what I had in mind. You see, I breed my own. They obey no voice but mine, take food from no hand but mine. [looks into run at Lucille] Oh, now, this is what I had in mind. [squats beside fence, inhales] This bitch is almost in heat, isn't she?

Valerie - Mm-hmm.

Kanis - Ah, that's perfect. [to Lucille] Hey.

Valerie - I'm sorry. Lucille isn't for sale.

Kanis - Good legs, strong chest... [stands up] I'll take her.

Valerie - Look, I told you, she's not for sale. [steps between him & pen]

Kanis - [pins her against fence, leans in] You haven't heard my offer.

Valerie - Look, I'm not interested.

Kanis - I am not leaving without that bitch. [senses 'buzz' as DM drives up, lets Valerie go, walks off]

DM - [approaches Valerie] You all right? [Valerie nods. DM follows Kanis.]

DM - It's time, Kanis.

Kanis - [holds up his hand] Not quite yet. [points to picnic table where Billy is sitting, petting Cornwall] All I have to do is think about it, and he'll rip the boy's throat out. [Cornwall looks over at Kanis. Kanis leans in toward DM.] Stay. [leaves]
 

[DM is walking through kennel area with Valerie & Billy.]

Valerie - Boy, am I glad you came by when you did. That guy was trouble.

DM - Did he hurt you?

Valerie - No. In my business, you get good at reading people. Know what they're like, what kind of owners they'll be, how they'll treat the dogs. Billy, honey, go inside and wash up. I'll be right there, okay? [Billy leaves.] I've seen his type before. He's just a guy with a pack of nasty males. I mean, you know what they say -- the bigger the dog, the smaller the... dog. [DM smiles.] Uh, he tried to buy Lucille. [walks over to her run]

DM - He wants to breed?

Valerie - She's in heat. CUT

DM - [pets Lucille through fence] Hey, Lucille. Good girl. I think she likes me.

RR - Yeah, a squirrelly little guy with curly hair?

Dock worker - Yeah. Mm-hmm. [points]

RR - That way? [shakes dock worker's hand, leaves]

[Roszca exits diner, carrying garbage bags, throws them in nearby dumpster. RR walks up behind him.]

RR - [as Roszca turns] Surprise. It's just you and me.

Roszca - I swear, man, you've got the wrong guy.

RR - You killed her, you lying little bastard!

Roszca - I didn't do it--

RR - [grabs him] Stop lying, to me, you little son of a bitch.

Roszca - [pushes RR away] I didn't! I never-- [jumps up, grabs fire escape strut, kicks RR to the ground]

RR - Son of a bitch! [jumps up, follows Roszca up fire escape. They race up several flights before RR catches Roszca & pushes him against the wall.] Say it!

Roszca - No!

RR - [punches Roszca] Say it!

Roszca - I don't -- Please, it wasn't me.

RR - [bends Roszca backward over fire escape railing] Say it!

Roszca - I don't know. I was so loaded back then, I don't remember half the crap I did.

RR - You pointed the gun and blew her away! I remember it like it was yesterday! You asked for a ride, and you pulled the gun!

Roszca - I don't remember!

RR - You were wearing torn jeans, a black baseball cap, and a denim jacket with an Indian guy on the back. By a T-Bird. Now say it! Say it!

Roszca - [in realization] Oh, man...

RR - What?! What?!

Roszca - The Mohawk. I lost that jacket a year ago... I did it. I killed her. Oh, man. I'm -- I'm so sorry.

RR - So am I. [throws Roszca over railing, but doesn't let go of him]

Roszca - [hanging onto railing] Oh, please. Please... I'm going to have a kid. I'm supposed to get married.

RR - [cold] So was she.

[DM is looking at blueprints when he senses 'buzz'.]

<Kanis - [walks in] It's time, MacLeod. CUT

[One of the Rottweilers barks at DM from a corner of the room. The other jumps through a window, shattering it.]>

Kanis - Don't worry, MacLeod. When they get your throat, you go into shock. You'll barely feel the rest.

[The two dogs stalk DM. He opens a door behind him, revealing Lucille.]

<DM - Hey, Lucille, your dates are here. Come on, boys. She's waiting.> CUT

[Kanis' Rottweilers run past him into the room with Lucille.]

Kanis - On him, now! [The dogs ignore him.]

DM - Nature, Kanis. You can't fight it. [closes door on the dogs] But you can fight me.

[DM grabs his sword. They fight. CUT <The fight takes them outside.]

DM - Kanis... [executes a twisting flip over Kanis' head, beheading him as he passes]

[During the Quickening, the entire house behind DM is lifted off its foundation and raised into the air. When the Quickening ends, it drops back into place.]

DM - Should have got earthquake insurance.>
 

[DM is on the couch with Lucille, reading "Treasures of the Fourth Crusade". He senses a 'buzz' & looks up.]

RR - [exits elevator] Well, look at this. A boy and his dog. [looks at Kanis' two Rottweilers standing nearby] I guess you took care of Kanis.

DM - With a little help from Lucille, here. She's going back to the breeder tomorrow... [re Kanis' dogs] with interest. What about you? Did you find Roszca?

RR - Oh, I found him. Didn't feel like I thought it would.

DM - Never does.

[Flashback of RR throwing Roszca over the fire escape railing.]

RR - I had him in my hands, Mac.

[Flashback of RR holding onto Roszca as Roszca hangs onto the railing.]

RR - I just wanted to make it right.

[RR starts pulling Roszca back up.]

(resume previous scene)

RR - But I couldn't kill him. Where's the justice in all this?

DM - There is no justice. Just mercy.
