MARK - I acted like an idiot. [She stops.] It's just that . . . [with feigned difficulty] Look, I'll just take you home.
 

 
MacLEOD - Let's use it to get to the bottom of this.
 

 
BELLIAN - Nobody leaves until I get what I've come for.
 

[MacLeod peers out the back door. He sees no one waiting.]

MARK - Is all this really necessary?

[MacLeod throws Mark a withering look.]

MacLEOD - Spread out and move quickly to the jeep.

[As they move toward the jeep, MacLeod is the closest when he sees a small incendiary device attached to the side of the vehicle. MacLeod reacts. He turns to the others.]

MacLEOD - Get down!

[Bellian nods to Brenner, who presses on a small electronic device.]

[The jeep explodes into a fireball. MacLeod is blown from his feet. Tessa rushes to him.]

TESSA - Are you all right?

MacLEOD - [nods] Everyone back inside.

[They hurry back into the house.]
 

[A montage of MacLeod directing the defense of the Chateau.]

[Tessa is pouring all the vegetable oil in the house into pots heating on the stove.]

[MacLeod is completing building a spring loaded pipe-club device with springs from an old bed and lead pipe held together by wire. MacLeod pulls back on the pipe and secures it in place with a wire trigger and moves on.]

[Richie and Mark are moving every piece of available furniture to block access through a doorway.]

[MacLeod has the top part of a lamp apart. He runs a piece of wire from the lamp socket to a pair of door knobs.]

[MacLeod takes out a portable bug sprayer -- a single cylinder that is worn like scuba gear with a metal hose-like device and a long metal rod. A gasoline can sits nearby.]

[Alan is cutting the piano wire from the inside of an old piano.]

[Alan and MacLeod are securing the piano wire across each doorway at a height of ten inches.]

MacLEOD - That'll do it.

ALAN - You know this guy?
 

 
ALAN - I didn't hear anything.

[Bellian signals his men, who move with trained precision toward the chateau.]

[MacLeod moves from room to room rallying his troops. He enters the ballroom where he finds Richie and Mark armed with pipes watching two French doors.]

MacLEOD - How are we doing?

[Mark says nothing. Richie swings the pipe.]

RICHIE - Play ball.

MacLEOD - It'll be any minute now.

[Richie nods. MacLeod moves off.]
 

[MacLeod surveys his remaining weapons and discusses the next attack with his troops. Alan holds up his "flame thrower."]

ALAN - It's useless. The tubing has melted shut.

[MacLeod looks about the room.]

MacLEOD - We need a new secure position. They'll be back as soon as they lick their wounds. [He turns to Richie and Mark.] We have to move to another part of the chateau. Take down the barricade in the hall.

[Mark and Richie move off. The telephone rings. Alan reacts, thinking that they've been saved. He picks it up.]

ALAN - [urgently] Hello . . . this is an emergency. [His face falls. He turns to MacLeod.] It's him. He wants to talk to you.

MacLEOD - [takes the phone] Hello . . .

[Bellian's men can be seen in the background, applying field dressings to the wounded as he speaks on a field phone that has been hooked up to the cut line.]

BELLIAN - Congratulations, MacLeod, you're a helluva opponent. We were sloppy and you stung us.

MacLEOD - What do you want?

BELLIAN - What I've always wanted. [beat] The first time I told my men not to kill anyone. Next time we come in shooting. [beat] Last chance.

MacLEOD - Go home, Everett.

BELLIAN - [turns to Brenner, his second-in-command] Signal Rogers. Tell him to get on with it.

[Bellian looks up the deserted road as a car pulls up and stops. He hangs up the phone as his daughter, Lori, approaches.]

[Bellian's man, Rogers, watches through the window. He sees the flash of a distant, powerful light. He checks the load in his shotgun and moves out of the room.]

[Alan straps on the bug sprayer. MacLeod pumps up the canister and lights the end of the metal rod. A thin blue flame appears. He pats him on the shoulder and moves off.]
 

[Richie and Mark are in the middle of explaining what happened to Tessa and Alan.]

MARK - He jumped me.

RICHIE - He raped that girl. He talked about her.
 

 
MARK - Remember the time in the Philippines. And the accident in South Africa . . .
 

 
RICHIE - I'm having a hard time figuring out who the good guys and who the bad guys are here, Mac . . . [beat] I keep thinking if I had a kid . . .

[The irony is not lost on MacLeod.]
 

 
ALAN - We'll get by them.

TESSA - If we hold out, someone could drive by . . .
 

 
MacLEOD - He's going into shock. We've got to get him to a hospital.

MARK - [watches his father anxiously] He did this. [moves toward the door] I should go out and kill this guy.
