SCENE ONE

EXT. DESERTED ALLEY – NIGHT

[MacLeod, his sword in hand, moves down the alley toward the buzz. An old, weather-beaten door slaps against its frame. MacLeod comes up to it and enters.

 

INT. BASEMENT – NIGHT

[MacLeod walks down a few steps and enters a dark, murky maze of a basement. The buzz is stronger here.]

SCENE TWO

 
JACOM - Don't worry, MacLeod, we fight like this all the time.

SCENE THREE

 
MacLEOD - What on earth for?

JACOM - There was a crypt of Byzantine religious relics that we thought we could recover easily.

MacLEOD - Gold.

SCENE FOUR

 
BAINES - And the deaths of the three other men associated with the expedition?

SCENE FIVE

 
JACOM - [to MacLeod] Under the circumstances, I'm afraid we'll have to postpone our negotiations.

MacLEOD - Of course. Whenever you're ready.

SCENE SIX

 
BAINES - It's not magic, Mr. Jacom . . . it's science. [beat] The reason you can't see a vampire's reflection is a simple optical effect . . . an illusion.

SCENE SEVEN

 
BAINES - Correct. Why it works is only a scientific mystery that is still hidden from me.

SCENE EIGHT

 
JACOM - What about me?

BAINES - [nods at the vial and cross] You have your weapons.

SCENE NINE

 
WARD - Have you had quite enough brandy?

SCENE TEN

 
MacLEOD - Sometimes I look at it and for a moment I can't remember what century I'm in.

DAWSON - [rubbing his jaw] I had that problem this morning.

MacLEOD - Sorry . . . How's the jaw?

DAWSON - I've been hit harder. [beat, with a smile] I just don't remember when.

SCENE ELEVEN
(in original script, this scene takes place after Joe & DM's 2nd meeting at Notre Dame)

 
[A hot rock beat permeates the building.]

HELENE - Leave it on. [An A&R man stands by the stereo, his hand on the button.] Call Peter on Monday and get together with the lawyers. I want these guys in the studio by Tuesday.

[The A&R man heads out. Helene turns toward an unseen figure.]

HELENE - You were right about keeping busy.

[She's talking to Nicholas Ward. His look is entirely different from what we have seen before. He sports an earring, leather pants. His manner is cutting edge, his style dangerous.]

WARD - I'm always right. [He moves to the stereo and turns it off.] I have to go.

SCENE TWELVE

 
JULIETTE - I don't know where Mr. Ward is. He keeps his own hours.

SCENE THIRTEEN

 
JULIETTE - Get out of my home and get out now, or I will have you arrested for trespassing. [beat] Nicholas and I will be married, and nothing you can say or do will stop that. [beat] Good night. [She turns on her heel and leaves.]
